The Valais mountain guide and alpinist Andreas Steindl has set a new record on the Matterhorn. It took him 3 hours, 59 minutes and 52 seconds to climb from Kirchplatz in Zermatt to the summit of the Matterhorn and back.

From 28 May 2021 the Matterhorn Museum is presenting the exhibition "NEW PERSPECTIVES. Women in Zermatt – Yesterday and Today", which considers the role of women in Zermatt's history and in the present day, engaging with the current issues of gender equality and equal rights. The new «Zooom the Matterhorn» experience world on the Gornergrat, which will open on 1 June 2021, offers all this and more. Zermatt has picked up one of this year’s Blick Winter Awards: on Thursday 2 March the results of an online vote by the Blick Group were celebrated at its award ceremony. Six awards went to the best Swiss winter sports areas, split into the categories “Snowboard & skiing”, “Cross country skiing”, “Small and sweet”, “Leisure and fun”, “Family” and “Gastronomy”. Zermatt took the top prize in the latter award, which was presented for the first time this year. Zermatt was also successful in the “Skiing and snowboarding” category, achieving second place. Blick awarded Zermatt CHF 85,000 for its first place in “Gastronomy”, which can be used for advertising purposes across its channels.

The countdown is on: the Matterhorn Glacier Ride II will go into operation on 1 July 2023. The new 3S cable car connects the Klein Matterhorn mountain station with the Testa Grigia valley station in Italy, creating the highest border crossing in the Alps – the Matterhorn Alpine Crossing.
